Travel with your Taste Buds- Swedish Meatball Recipe

Caption:

The history of the meatball is as diverse as the people around the world who love them. From China to ancient Rome to Iran, meatballs have long been a staple for many countries. Ironically, the famous Swedish meatballs originated in Turkey, and you can thank King Charles XII for bringing them back to Sweden. After losing the 1709 Battle of Poltava to Russia, Charles fled into the arms of the Ottoman Empire where he was treated as an exalted guest. He traveled across the empire for five years enjoying the culture and food, and he brought back his favorites– including the iconic “Swedish” meatballs.

When the time is right, we’ll help you plan a trip, but for now, get a taste of Sweden with this Swedish meatball recipe:

Travel With Your Taste Buds: Colombia

Caption:

The exact Latin American origin of ajiaco is not entirely known. However, it is one of the most representative dishes of Bogotá, Colombia, and is known by visitors as a must-try traditional meal. According to historians, the Chibcha indigenous people, which called Cundinamarca (modern-day Bogotá) home, ate a similar soup with aji-flavored potatoes. When the Spaniards arrived, they added cream and chicken, creating the ajiaco that is known today.

Are you a foodie who loves to travel? At TierOne Travel, we can help you to create unique and authentic experiences to give you an up-close and personal encounter with the culinary culture of your destination. When the time is right, we’ll help you plan a trip to Latin America, but for now, get a taste of Colombia with this ajiaco recipe:

Words of the World: Eleutheromania

Have you ever felt a strong desire to just leave and go somewhere where you would be disconnected from your day-to-day life? This #Greek noun directly translates to “a desperate craving for freedom, a compulsive need for traveling around.” Once you hop on a plane and reach your destination, your craving for freedom will definitely be satisfied.

Cheers from the world: Rioja, Spain

When you think of Spanish wines, you probably think of Tempranillo … and for good reason. Tempranillo is a red wine grape that’s indigenous to Spain, but it’s also the dominant grape of the Rioja region, one of the most popular wine-producing regions in the country. The Rioja region is landlocked in North Central Spain, and its wines are classified by four levels: Genérico, Crianza, Reserva, and Gran Reserva. Rioja’s wines are as worthy as its peers from Bordeaux and Burgundy, and yet they often fly under the radar, meaning you can snag an amazing bottle for far less than other similarly rated Old World wines.

Take a sip of wine and start dreaming of Spain. When the time is right, your TierOne Travel Consultant will help you visit in person!
